Our Story

Virginia Tan is the founding partner of Teja Ventures which was inspired by her leadership of Lean In China and She Loves Tech, two of the world’s largest communities for women. Virginia’s background was in strategic investments related to China’s One Belt One Road policy. She covered more than USD30 billion worth of commercial transactions, participating in the rise of the Chinese tech ecosystem and outbound capital investment from China to the rest of the world.

Inspired by Sheryl Sandberg’s book “Lean In”, she founded Lean In China in 2013, which became China’s leading women’s community of more than 100,000 members, focused on professional women and college students across more than 25 cities and 100 universities in China. In 5 years, Lean In China has held more than 1,000 events, attended by hundreds of thousands of women, and its annual white paper attracts more than 200 million online media impressions.

She became an angel investor when she founded She Loves Tech® in 2015, a global platform congregating and incubating leading female entrepreneurs and technology. It now houses the world’s largest startup competition for women and technology, held across 12 countries. She Loves Tech has since attracted more than 800 million online media impressions. Winning startups have received investment from Sequoia Capital, Microsoft, Amazon, etc.

The establishment of Teja Ventures is a continuation of Virginia’s determination to build a more supportive ecosystem for women in Asia, using venture capital to fully leverage and scale the economic opportunities of the She Economy. Her access to massive communities of women entrepreneurs, professionals and students has given her unique insights into and pipeline relating to the She Economy, through understanding the needs, consumer behavior and purchasing power of women as end users and consumers.
